ML Guide to Lease Renewal : what happens when a lease expires?

Although lease renewal differs from rent review, I find that when people are unfamiliar with tenancy matters there can be a tendency to think that what happens on expiry of a lease is similar to rent review, especially when the landlord is proposing to renew.

There are some similarities between rent review and lease renewal but, rather than explore the similarities, it is easier to explain the basic principles. Having said that, it should be easy to explain what happens on expiry of a lease, but it is not, so I have written this leaflet to help tenants to, at least, understand the general principles.
